Environmental Assessment

NAIK_Image_NaiKunMetMastCompleted-360x500Following a rigorous harmonized provincial/federal environmental assessment review, NaiKun Wind was granted an Environmental Assessment Certificate from the Government of British Columbia in December 2009, and received a five-year extension in December 2014.

Provincial (Environmental Assessment Office) and federal (Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency) regulatory approvals are in place for a 400MW project.

In addition, a component of the environmental assessment (EA) considers any potential effects of the project on wildlife, including birds. NaiKun is committed to designing and building the project in consideration of community and environmental interests. The modern wind turbines that will be used in this project are designed with features to help minimize impacts to birds and their habitat including slowly rotating turbine blades and elimination of areas on the turbines for birds to nest or perch.
